As chief external EDI officer, Renée Byng Yancey leads the strategic implementation to center equity, diversity, and inclusion in how members are educated, recruited, and retained all along the career continuum. Her role ensures internal alignment of sustainability and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts throughout the organization, working with AIA components and the profession. Her team collaborates with members, colleagues, and partners to deepen and expand the leadership trajectories of emerging professionals and candidates on the pathway to licensure; develop women in architecture programs; champion equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in firm and studio culture; and dismantle barriers to belonging and inclusiveness at AIA. This work is undergirded by a commitment to equity in communities and the intersections of sustainability and resilience.
